VW expands the myVW app with Apple Watch and Wear OS support, letting drivers check EV charge, start charging, precondition climate, lock/unlock, and locate car.
Volkswagen is expanding its myVW app with full Apple Watch and Wear OS support. That means owners of most models built after 2020 can remotely control a range of vehicle functions straight from a smartwatch. The update is particularly useful for VW electric vehicles: drivers can check the state of charge at a glance, start or stop charging, and precondition the climate to conserve battery energy.
Owners of gasoline models gain meaningful convenience, too. On the watch, they can see fuel levels, lock or unlock the doors, locate the car with a sound alert, and—where the feature is available—start the engine remotely. All of it works without pulling out a smartphone.
The convenience isn’t free, though. To enable watch features, owners need to install the app on a smartphone, add the car to a virtual garage, agree to the myVW and myVW+ terms, and then activate a subscription. The required plans—Remote Access and VW Vehicle Insights—start at 8.53 euros per month, although new cars sometimes include a trial period.
Volkswagen openly notes that it aims to boost user engagement and strengthen loyalty to its ecosystem. The smartwatch tie-in comes across as a natural step toward "connected mobility," where the car becomes part of a single digital environment that’s always within reach.
