Android Auto users face two bugs — a Spotify widget not showing track info and a washed-out display — with fixes expected from Spotify and Google updates.
The first problem concerns Spotify. On some vehicles, the Spotify widget on Android Auto’s home screen stops showing the currently playing track or podcast, replacing it with the message «Tap to Open.» Playback itself continues uninterrupted, but detailed information is only visible after opening the app. In certain cases, steering wheel and dashboard controls also stop responding properly. Reports suggest this bug has been around since July, shortly after Spotify introduced its Jam feature, and it has persisted ever since.
The second glitch affects Android Auto’s interface itself. Users describe a «washed-out» appearance, where the typically dark elements have turned gray and overall screen contrast has dropped noticeably. This change is particularly disruptive in night mode or when using navigation apps, where dark palettes help reduce eye strain. The root cause remains unclear — it could be tied to a bug in a recent Android Auto update or to changes on Google’s servers.
Industry observers believe that fixing the Spotify widget issue will likely require an update from Spotify, while restoring the interface’s normal appearance will depend on Google releasing its own patch. In the meantime, users continue to post complaints and share temporary workarounds in forums and on Reddit, hoping both problems will be resolved soon.
