Huawei Mate X7 debuts as a slimmer foldable with IP58/IP59 protection, Kirin 9030 Pro, 50 MP telephoto, and a 5600 mAh battery with 66 W/50 W charging.

Huawei has unveiled the Mate X7, a new foldable that brings several meaningful upgrades over last year’s Mate X6. The headline change is tougher environmental protection: the device meets IP58 and IP59 standards, guarding not just against dust and water but also against powerful water jets. It also steps up to the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, adds an updated telephoto camera, and fits a larger battery — improvements that add up to a notably more resilient and capable package.

Even though the Mate X6 was already among the most compact foldables, Huawei managed to slim the X7 further: 9.5 mm when closed and just 4.5 mm when open. The weight is down by 4 grams, while a robust aluminum frame remains in place — a neat bit of trimming without sacrificing rigidity.

The displays have grown slightly. The outer panel measures 6.49 inches with a 20.4:9 aspect ratio, while the main inner screen spans 8 inches with an 8:7.3 ratio. Both are LTPO OLED and support a 1–120 Hz refresh rate alongside 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM control, a pairing that promises adaptive smoothness with fine-grained dimming.

The camera setup is also stronger. A 50 MP RYYB main unit with a ten-step variable aperture (f/1.4–4.0) is now complemented by a new 50 MP telephoto with f/2.2 aperture and 3.5x optical zoom. The third camera is a 40 MP ultra-wide. Selfies are handled by two 8 MP shooters — one on the cover screen and another on the inner display — a mix that points to versatile shooting with real optical reach.

Under the hood sits the Kirin 9030 Pro, the same flagship platform used in the Mate 80 line. Preliminary specs indicate a nine-core ARMv8 design in a 1+4+4 configuration (2.75 GHz + 2.27 GHz + 1.72 GHz). Memory options span from 12 to 20 GB of RAM and from 256 GB up to 1 TB of storage, leaving plenty of headroom for demanding multitasking.

Power comes from a dual-cell silicon carbide–based battery with a total capacity of 5600 mAh. Charging supports 66 W over a cable and 50 W wirelessly. In China, the Mate X7 runs HarmonyOS 6 and includes satellite communication support — a generous energy setup with flexible charging to match.

The color palette includes black, white, purple, and red. Pricing starts at 12,999 yuan (~$1,830) for the 12/256 GB version and reaches 17,999 yuan (~$2,534) for the 20 GB/1 TB model, with sales in China beginning on December 5. It’s a package that clearly plants the Mate X7 in the ultra-premium bracket.
