Reetle SmartInk I is a snap-on E Ink case for iPhone 14–17: 3.97-inch display, AI voice notes, 300 mAh battery. Live on Kickstarter, shipping Feb 2026.

An unusual iPhone accessory has surfaced on Kickstarter: the Reetle SmartInk I. It’s a compact E Ink display that snaps onto the back of a phone like a regular protective case. The makers present it as a versatile add-on—not just for reading e-books, but also for showing everything from QR codes and to-do lists to boarding passes. In other words, it turns the rear of your phone into a quick-glance information panel.

The familiar strength of E Ink technology is front and center: content remains legible even in bright sunlight and doesn’t need a backlight. The well-known trade-off is still there too—slower refresh—so it’s best suited to static content. SmartInk I leans into that niche, where low power and readability matter more than animation.

On the spec sheet, the display measures 3.97 inches with a resolution of 480 × 800 pixels. It connects over Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth via a companion app, which means no cable hassle. Compatibility covers iPhone models from the 14 to the 17 series, keeping the focus on current devices.

A single button lets users record a voice note, which the system then turns into text and a brief summary using built-in AI—handy for capturing ideas on the fly. Power comes from a 300 mAh battery; the developers say that’s good for roughly 10 hours of use. A wireless charger is included in the box.

For now, SmartInk I is seeking funding on Kickstarter with a starting price of $120. If the campaign succeeds, the first units are slated to reach backers in February 2026. As with any crowdfunding effort, it’s worth weighing the financial risks—especially since this is Reetle’s debut project—yet the concept itself feels like a thoughtful take on glanceable, low-distraction utility.
