OnePlus 15R debuts with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 165 Hz display, 7,400 mAh battery and IP69 durability

OnePlus has officially introduced the OnePlus 15R, narrowing the gap between the mid-range and flagship tiers. Launching in India at 47,999 rupees, the phone reads less like a compromise and more like a confident alternative to pricier siblings.

The headline attraction is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5—making its first appearance in the R series. It’s paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a sizable Cryo-Velocity cooling system with circular heat dissipation, built for sustained gaming sessions and heavy multitasking. Up front sits a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and an adaptive refresh rate up to 165 Hz, a combination that clearly targets everyday use and competitive mobile play alike.

Power is another standout. A 7,400 mAh battery—among the largest in its class—relies on Silicon Nanostack tech to fit into an 8.1 mm body. Fast charging comes via 80 W SUPERVOOC, delivering roughly 50% in about 22 minutes. The company also says the battery is designed to retain over 80% of its capacity after four years of use.

The camera setup is more restrained. A 50 MP Sony IMX906 main sensor with optical stabilization is joined by an 8 MP ultrawide, and there’s no telephoto lens; software takes the lead here, with the DetailMax Engine handling cleaner digital zoom and low-light shooting. The 15R runs OxygenOS 16 on Android 16, leans on the contextual AI suite Plus Mind, and is slated for four years of system updates.

Durability gets an unexpected boost for the R line: the OnePlus 15R carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, signaling resistance not just to immersion but also to high-pressure water jets and temperatures up to 80 degrees. Buyers can choose from several finishes, including a rugged Electric Violet variant with a fiberglass body.
