Apple's iPhone Air debuts at $999 with the A19 Pro, a 5.6 mm design, undercutting the Galaxy S25 Edge. Specs, trade-offs, and early reactions inside today.

Apple has introduced the iPhone Air, already being called the company’s most ambitious move of 2025. The newcomer is slimmer and more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge yet keeps the flagship A19 Pro processor. The chassis measures just 5.6 mm—an iPhone record and a hair thinner than its closest Samsung rival. The starting price undercuts it as well: $999 versus $1,099 for the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Analysts say this strategy brings back the momentum that faded after several generations of muted updates. Positioned as a replacement for the Plus line, the Air is aimed at those watching price tags but unwilling to trade away performance. The move reads as an attempt to re-energize the lineup by shaving bulk without surrendering speed.

There are caveats. A smaller battery may struggle to power through a full day of heavy use, and a single rear camera looks like a step backward next to the dual and triple arrays elsewhere. Apple is leaning on software tuning and the A19 Pro’s efficiency to offset those limits. The trade-offs won’t please everyone, but the priorities are clear.

In Cupertino, the device drew loud applause. Blogger Gaurav Chaudhary (Technical Guruji) described the iPhone Air as a completely new kind of phone and suggested it could echo the original MacBook Air’s impact, setting a new standard for thinness and performance. If Apple convinces users that compactness doesn’t come at the expense of battery life, the Air could become a sales hit and help the company reclaim leadership in key markets.
