Early leaks reveal Galaxy Z Fold 8 cameras: a new 50MP ultrawide joins a 200MP main and 12MP 3x telephoto, promising steadier video and a consistent strategy.

The first leaks about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8’s cameras suggest the company may finally be taking a more consistent approach to upgrading the imaging system on its foldable flagships. GalaxyClub reports that the new Fold, codenamed Q8, will keep a 200-megapixel main camera while delivering more meaningful changes to the other sensors.

The headline change is a switch to a 50-megapixel ultrawide in place of the previous 12MP unit. That move would bring the Galaxy Z Fold 8 closer to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and should deliver crisper detail, better close-up performance, and the option to record 8K video through the ultrawide lens. For video in particular, that’s a sensible target, since ultrawides typically produce steadier footage.

As for the telephoto, rumors point to a 12-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom — a modest step up from the 10MP module in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The front cameras on the inner and outer screens are said to remain at 10 megapixels without changes.

Even with the progress, some fans may feel let down by the lack of a higher-resolution telephoto. A 50MP tele would have enabled cleaner hybrid and digital zoom, much like what competitors offer; instead, Samsung appears to be placing its bet on the ultrawide. It’s a pragmatic, if conservative, choice that favors everyday video and landscape flexibility over reach.

There’s also word of another future Samsung foldable, codenamed H8, that may adopt the same 50MP ultrawide sensor. Whether that points to a different Fold variant, an FE model, or an entirely new form factor remains unclear, but the leak hints at a more systematic camera strategy across Samsung’s foldable lineup.
