Early leaks detail the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera: 200MP ISOCELL HP6, new processing, 8K/60fps video, upgraded telephoto, and possible S Pen removal in 2027.

Early details about the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera are surfacing well ahead of the series’ official debut. Insider reports point to a notable boost to the flagship’s imaging in 2027, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to pass on major hardware upgrades for the camera.

According to the well-known leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s main camera is set to adopt a new ISOCELL HP6 sensor. This is a 200‑megapixel unit with a 1/1.3‑inch optical format, close in size to the ISOCELL HP2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The claim also suggests Samsung will bring new image-processing technologies to HP6, with the aim of improving both photo and video quality. The emphasis, clearly, is shifting toward smarter processing rather than just sensor size.

Beyond the primary camera, an update to the ultrawide module is reportedly in the works. There’s also growing chatter about a telephoto upgrade: recent generations have relied on relatively modest 10–12‑megapixel sensors, and within the industry a move to a 50‑ or even 200‑megapixel unit is viewed as a logical next step for a device at this level. Skipping big changes on the S26 Ultra only reinforces the impression that Samsung is saving its bolder camera hardware moves for 2027.

Other potential additions for the Galaxy S27 Ultra include 8K video capture at 60 frames per second, a larger sensor for the periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, and a square sensor for the front-facing camera. There’s also discussion around implementing 3D face scanning based on Metalenz’s Polar ID system, paired with the ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensor.

Some rumors point to a more radical shift as well: Samsung may remove the built-in S Pen, which would make the Galaxy S27 Ultra the first in the line without it. Whether that happens will become clearer closer to the launch, but the emerging picture is unambiguous—2027 is shaping up to be all about the camera.
