Sony LinkBuds Clip: open-ear headphones with 360 audio

Sony is preparing to announce a new audio product that turns out to be quite different from what brand fans were expecting. Despite anticipation for the flagship WF-1000XM6 headphones, the Japanese company will unveil a completely different model on January 21, 2026: the wireless LinkBuds Clip, designated WF-LC900. This is indicated by a previously published and then hidden teaser from Sony, which mentioned a "new way to listen."

The LinkBuds Clip will join the LinkBuds lineup, known for its emphasis on an open design and interaction with the environment. These are Sony's first "clip" format headphones: they attach behind the ear with a lightweight hook and fall into the open-ear category, allowing external sounds to pass through. This approach is aimed at everyday use, walks, and conversations, where maintaining awareness of the surroundings is important.

According to available information, the headphones will feature Bluetooth with support for simultaneous connection to two devices, 360 Reality Audio spatial sound, and sound personalization. For calls, a system with two microphones, a voice vibration sensor, and AI algorithms for speech enhancement is provided. Special modes for voice amplification and sound leakage reduction are also announced.

The battery life of the LinkBuds Clip will be up to 9 hours on a single charge and up to 37 hours including the case, with fast charging offering about an hour of playback in just a few minutes. The model will be protected against splashes and sweat with an IPX4 rating and will offer touch controls, adaptive volume adjustment, and equalizer settings via Sony's proprietary app.

The LinkBuds Clip are expected to go on sale for around 200 euros, which aligns with the pricing of other models in the lineup. This new product represents Sony's attempt to capture the niche of stylish and lightweight open-ear headphones, focusing not on maximum isolation but on comfort and "open" listening throughout the day.
