DJI RS 5 stabilizer: intelligent tracking and solo convenience

DJI has unveiled its new RS 5 stabilizer, focusing on smart object tracking and solo shooting convenience. The model represents a logical evolution of the RS series, maintaining a familiar design while introducing key technological and mechanical upgrades. The standout feature is a new intelligent tracking module that attaches magnetically and displays the image directly on the stabilizer's touchscreen. Users can now select a subject with a simple tap, eliminating the need for gestures or extra accessories.

The system can track people, cars, and pets, maintaining lock-on at distances of up to 10 meters. Even if the subject briefly leaves the frame, the stabilizer can quickly reacquire tracking, which is particularly useful for dynamic or unpredictable shooting. It feels like DJI is increasingly targeting scenarios where operators want to focus on framing rather than managing equipment.

Technical improvements have also been made. The peak torque of the motors has increased by 50%, and the fifth-generation stabilization handles sudden movements and vertical shooting more effectively. The RS 5 remains relatively lightweight at about 1.46 kg with the handle and supports cameras weighing up to 3 kg. Switching between horizontal and portrait modes is now faster and doesn't require additional mounts.

To enhance usability, DJI has added a one-handed electronic control adapter and a Z-axis stabilization indicator that provides real-time feedback on the operator's smoothness. The built-in battery offers up to 14 hours of operation, with fast charging taking about an hour. With an additional battery, runtime can extend to roughly 30 hours.

In China, the DJI RS 5 is already available for pre-order starting at 3,099 yuan, while a more advanced version is priced at 3,899 yuan.
