Leaks suggest the Xiaomi 18 may include a periscope camera, ultrasonic scanner, and wireless charging as standard, enhancing photography and usability.
Xiaomi hasn't yet launched the Xiaomi 17 series globally, but rumors are already shifting focus to the Xiaomi 18. According to the latest information from Chinese insider Digital Chat Station, the next lineup might finally make several premium features standard across all models. The list of potential upgrades includes a periscope telephoto camera, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and a higher water resistance rating.
The most notable change would be the inclusion of a periscope camera in the standard version. This should deliver optical zoom up to 5x, whereas the Xiaomi 17's standard telephoto lens only offers 2.6x. Such a move could make the base model truly versatile and appealing to users who value photography capabilities without paying extra for the Pro version.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi continues to work on the Pro version. Company representative Wang Le addressed rumors about high costs for the Xiaomi 17 Pro's rear screen, noting that such expenses aren't comparable to chip development and confirming the screen won't be removed in the next generation. The Xiaomi 18 is likely to be one of the first models based on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. With the official presentation still far off, all current information comes from leaks that could change.
