Code in One UI 8.5 references Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro (SM-R540, SM-R640), hinting development and a possible 2026 launch with the upcoming Galaxy S26.
Fresh code spilled from the One UI 8.5 firmware has unexpectedly hinted at Samsung’s next true‑wireless earbuds. Buried in the software strings are references to Galaxy Buds 4 and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, along with their model identifiers — SM-R540 and SM-R640, respectively.
As a reminder, the current Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro arrived in July 2024, just over a year ago. The gap between Buds 2 and Buds 3 was almost two years, so a rapid turn‑around seems unlikely. Even so, the appearance of these codenames suggests the line is already in development, and a launch could line up with the Galaxy S26 in 2026. That timing would make sense, giving Samsung room to iterate without stepping on the toes of the existing models.
Notably, Samsung’s numbering remains consistent: Buds 3 Pro carried the SM-R630 index, while Buds 4 Pro is tagged as SM-R640 — perfectly in step with the company’s usual logic. No technical specifications have surfaced yet, but code-level mentions indicate that testing has already begun, so the wheels are clearly turning.
