Leaked details on the Xiaomi Tag smart tracker: compact design, UWB for precise tracking, easy battery replacement, and integration with Xiaomi ecosystem. Expected to compete with AirTag and SmartTag.

Xiaomi is preparing to enter the smart tracker market, and a recent leak suggests it already has a nearly finished device. The new gadget, tentatively called the Xiaomi Tag, is designed for finding items and can be attached to keys, backpacks, bicycles, or even hidden in a car—much like Apple's AirTag or Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag.

According to published details, the tracker will feature a compact, rounded body and come in two versions: one with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support and one without it. UWB technology allows for highly precise location tracking, down to centimeters, whereas standard Bluetooth only provides an approximate distance. The device is expected to be powered by a CR2032 battery, hinting at easy user replacement.

Functionally, the Xiaomi Tag doesn't aim to reinvent the wheel. Users will be able to track an item's location on a map, receive notifications if they leave something behind, and manage settings through the Xiaomi ecosystem. An interesting feature might be the ability to "share" the tracker with others, which could help prevent false alerts about unwanted tracking.

It's still unclear when the device will be officially announced or if it will launch outside China. However, if Xiaomi prices it more affordably than Apple or Samsung's offerings, it could quickly gain popularity and potentially expand to global markets later on.
