WhatsApp is testing a paid subscription to eliminate ads from the Updates tab, offering an ad-free experience. Expected in Europe and UK, priced around €4/month.

WhatsApp is testing a new paid subscription model that would allow users to completely eliminate advertising content from the messenger. This information emerged after an analysis of the latest Android beta version, where an option for an ad-free subscription was discovered.

Currently, advertising elements in WhatsApp are confined exclusively to the "Updates" tab. This is where users see promoted statuses and recommendations to subscribe to various channels. Personal chats, group conversations, and calls remain free of any commercial inserts. Ad selection is based on basic data such as interface language, region, and activity within the updates section.

According to data from test build 2.26.3.9, the paid subscription will remove all advertising blocks from the "Updates" tab. Once activated, the interface will become completely neutral: promotional statuses and channel recommendations will disappear, allowing users to browse updates without distracting elements.

The feature is expected to launch first in European countries and the United Kingdom. This approach is tied to local legislation requirements that mandate digital services offer a choice between free access with ads and a paid version without them. The subscription will be optional and will likely be processed through standard app store tools.

The preliminary cost of the service is estimated at around €4 per month, though the final price may change closer to launch. It also remains unclear whether the subscription will be a standalone option for WhatsApp only or integrated into a broader service package. The feature is currently in testing and will become available to users after all checks are completed.
