Samsung unveils Galaxy XR headset on Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 with Sony OLEDoS 3,800 PPI, 8 external cams and eye tracking; plus Smart Eyes XR glasses with LCoS.

According to The Elec, at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2025, Samsung officially unveiled its first entry in the XR category: the Samsung Galaxy XR. Internally codenamed Infinity, the headset runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, a chipset purpose-built for mixed and virtual reality devices.

Insiders indicate the device will carry eight external cameras to track the environment and two internal units to monitor eye movement. The center of attention is the display: Samsung chose a Sony-made OLEDoS panel with a standout density of 3,800 PPI, delivering exceptionally crisp visuals at near-eye distance.

Samsung had previously considered its own OLEDoS panels but ultimately went with an external supplier. The OLEDoS approach—depositing organic LEDs on a silicon substrate—brings not only very high resolution, but also compact dimensions, energy efficiency, and a more enveloping feel for VR/AR content. The choice comes across as pragmatic, prioritizing dependable execution over in-house ambition at this stage.

Alongside the Infinity headset, Samsung is working on another project: XR glasses under the codename Smart Eyes. These are slated to use LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology, which should make them lighter and more comfortable for everyday wear.

Taken together, the moves signal Samsung’s intent to stake a serious claim in mixed and virtual reality, positioning the company against Apple Vision Pro and other contenders. The strategy looks two-pronged: a high-immersion headset paired with lighter, day-to-day glasses.
