Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 debuts with 20% faster CPU, 35% better efficiency, 23% faster GPU and 37% AI boost. See Geekbench results, 8K capture, and first phones
At the annual Snapdragon Summit 2025 in Maui, Qualcomm unveiled its new flagship processor, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is the company’s most powerful chip to date: the CPU delivers a 20% performance uplift while improving power efficiency by 35%, the Adreno graphics is 23% faster, and the Hexagon NPU now handles AI tasks 37% more quickly. Taken together, the gains point to a platform built for both speed and stamina.
In Geekbench, the chip is already posting striking numbers: 3,705 in single-core and 11,228 in multi-core tests, positioning it to compete with Apple’s A19 Pro and even surpass it in some scenarios. That should make the coming flagship season notably more competitive.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also brings the X85 5G modem with support for sub-6 GHz and mmWave, while imaging is covered by an advanced Spectra ISP and a new APV codec that enables near-lossless 8K video capture. Creators will appreciate the extra headroom for high-resolution shooting without heavy trade-offs.
The first smartphones built on the new platform will be the Xiaomi 17 series, followed by the OnePlus 15, iQOO 15, and devices from other brands including Samsung, Sony, vivo, and ZTE. The rollout points to swift adoption across the Android flagship field.
