Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was the top-selling premium game on PlayStation in the US in January 2026, with strong sales despite mixed reviews. See how it compares to Xbox and PC.
In January 2026, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 unexpectedly became the top-selling premium game on PlayStation in the United States. According to analytics firm Circana, the title saw strong demand both digitally and at retail, despite mixed audience reactions following its release.
Interestingly, this PlayStation success contrasts with more modest results on Xbox. There, NBA 2K26 led the January rankings, while Black Ops 7 only managed sixth place. Analysts attribute this to the influence of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, where Call of Duty releases are available without requiring a full purchase.
Battlefield 6 also posted solid numbers. On PlayStation, it secured fifth place, and on Xbox, third—confirming sustained interest in the franchise despite criticism of its second season content. On PC, the gap between Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 was minimal, with third and fourth positions respectively.
Older titles deserve special mention for their enduring appeal. Red Dead Redemption 2 surprisingly took second place overall, while Code Vein 2 managed to top the overall U.S. sales chart.
Overall, the rivalry between Call of Duty and Battlefield remains a key driver for the industry. Both series continue to influence each other, pushing developers to adapt and experiment—a dynamic that ultimately benefits players.
