AMD is prepping a Radeon RX 9070 GRE refresh with 16GB and a 256-bit bus, boosting RDNA 4 performance. Launch due Sept–Oct, China-first, with pricing still TBD.

AMD is prepping a refreshed Radeon RX 9070 GRE that swaps the current 12 GB of memory for 16 GB. According to Chinese insiders, the upgrade also widens the bus from 192-bit to 256-bit, a change that should pull its performance closer to other Navi 48-based cards — a measured refresh aimed at narrowing the gap within the lineup.

The present 12 GB RX 9070 GRE draws 220 W, already delivering performance on par with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 and supporting FSR 4. With more memory on tap, the model is poised to strengthen its position, especially in modern games and resource-hungry applications.

The launch is expected between September and October. China will remain the primary market, though a broader rollout is still possible. It’s not yet clear whether the current 4,199 yuan price (about $500) will hold or be adjusted upward.

Industry watchers attribute RDNA 4’s appeal to its strong price-to-performance balance. And with AMD’s modular SoC design enabling flexible SKU updates, a 16 GB RX 9070 GRE looks set to be just one of several variations before the company moves on to the next RDNA 5 architecture — a practical way to extend momentum without a full-scale overhaul.
