Explore the Google Play Store 48.2 update: the new You tab for subscriptions and Play Points, AI-powered search, and Play Games profile sharing with achievements.
Google has released a Play Store update to version 48.2, with a clear focus on personalization and gaming achievements. The standout change is the new "You" tab, which replaces "Books" in the bottom navigation. It lets you track subscriptions, rewards, your Play Points balance, and your in-game achievements and progress. The tab also pulls in a tailored mix of content from your apps—such as podcasts and audiobooks that might match your interests—nudging the store toward a more personal dashboard.
Another notable shift is the expanded use of AI in search. The updated semantic search now helps you find apps by what they do, not just by name, even if your keywords don’t match the description. App cards will also surface more context, including user reviews, developer updates, and event announcements. That should make discovery faster and less hit-or-miss.
For Play Games, Google has added profile sharing. You can make your gaming profile public, follow friends, and compare progress, and achievements will now earn additional Play Points. It’s a small tweak that encourages friendly competition and keeps engagement within the ecosystem.
The company notes that these features will arrive first in regions where the Play Points program operates, with a gradual rollout to follow worldwide. To check for the update, head to Play Store settings and start a manual update.
With these steps, Google aims to broaden its audience and make the account experience as universal as possible.
