Learn why the base MacBook Pro M5 remains a relevant and balanced option for budget-conscious users, with updates on design rumors and future models.

While Apple is already preparing an update to the MacBook Pro lineup, the current base model with the M5 chip remains a relevant choice for purchase right now. The design of the 14-inch model hasn't changed in almost five years, and rumors of an upcoming redesign are only intensifying. However, this update is expected to not affect all versions.

This specifically refers to the base MacBook Pro M5, not the more expensive configurations with Pro and Max chips. If there's no urgent need to buy, it would be logical to wait for the new generation. But the key point is that, according to current information, the updated design will only be available for the more expensive models with next-generation chips.

This means budget-conscious users targeting the base configuration won't get the redesign anytime soon. Apple has applied this strategy before: for example, in 2021, only versions with the M1 Pro and M1 Max received the new look, while more affordable options appeared much later.

Forecasts suggest the base version of the MacBook Pro with an updated design might not arrive until 2028. Meanwhile, future models will get an OLED display, a thinner chassis, 5G support, and possibly a touchscreen—but these technologies will initially remain in the premium segment due to high costs.

Against this backdrop, the current MacBook Pro M5 looks like a practical solution. It already offers an increased base storage of up to 1 TB, high performance, and a quality display that surpasses the MacBook Air lineup. For those not willing to exceed a budget of around $2,000, this remains one of the most balanced options for the coming years.
