Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will debut a burgundy color, replacing black for the second year. Learn about this premium Pro series update and release details.

Apple is ditching the traditional black color in its iPhone Pro lineup for the second consecutive year. According to leaks, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are testing a new dark red shade, close to burgundy, which would be the first red option for the premium Pro series.

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman clarifies that this burgundy color differs from the bright cherry-red Project RED models of previous generations—it's deeper and more refined. It maintains the series' premium positioning while appearing bolder than the familiar titanium and graphite shades of recent models.

Black will be unavailable in the Pro lineup for the second year running. Apple first removed it with the iPhone 17 Pro, replacing it with more expressive options like cosmic orange and dark blue. The iPhone 18 Pro seems set to continue this trend, offering a bold and expressive palette specifically for professional models.

Earlier rumors mentioned purple and brown shades, but Gurman notes these are merely variations of the new burgundy color, not separate options. The foldable iPhone, launching alongside the 18 Pro, will retain the subdued space gray and silver finishes, highlighting the color palette division between product lines.

The official iPhone 18 Pro presentation is expected in September 2026. Color options will be among the final details Apple confirms before release. The dark red variant could be a genuine novelty for Pro series enthusiasts, while black remains unavailable once again.
