Samsung Galaxy S27 could increase Exynos chip share to 50%

Samsung is considering increasing the share of its own Exynos processors to 50% in the upcoming Galaxy S27 lineup. This move is driven by the rising cost of Qualcomm chips and a desire to reduce reliance on external suppliers.

Industry sources indicate that using Qualcomm solutions is becoming increasingly expensive. Notably, the expected Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be manufactured using TSMC's expensive 2-nanometer process, which could further raise costs for Samsung. In practice, this means the company faces a choice: either absorb additional expenses or offset them partly by boosting its own chip usage. Therefore, shifting toward broader Exynos adoption appears a logical step in its cost-optimization strategy.

Current tests of the Exynos 2600, however, show mixed results. The chip delivers competitive performance but still lags behind Snapdragon in energy efficiency, heat management, and battery life—key factors for flagship devices.

According to leaks, Samsung plans to distribute Exynos and Snapdragon chips nearly evenly across the Galaxy S27 series. This would mark a significant strategic shift and demonstrate how confident the company is in developing its own solutions.
