Discover the Denon AVR-S980H AV receiver with 7.2 channels, Dolby Atmos, 4K/8K support, and HEOS streaming. Ideal for movies and gaming, priced at €899.
Denon has unveiled the AVR-S980H, a new AV receiver for home theaters that combines support for modern audio formats with flexible speaker connection options. This model succeeds the Denon AVR-S970H and carries a manufacturer's price tag of €899, though it's not yet available at launch.
The receiver features a 7.2-channel configuration and supports Dolby Atmos, enabling setups like a 5.2.2 system with two subwoofers and overhead channels. With an amplification power of around 90 watts per channel, it's well-suited for standard living rooms or mid-sized home theaters.
For automatic calibration, it uses the Audyssey MultEQ acoustic correction system, which analyzes the room and adjusts audio parameters to match the specific acoustic environment, including listener distance and channel levels. Beyond Dolby Atmos, the device supports modern video and audio formats like 4K and 8K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and DTS:X. It also includes gaming technology support, such as 1440p passthrough and AMD FreeSync, making it a versatile solution not just for movies but for gaming too.
For streaming, it offers Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and the proprietary multi-room HEOS system. Denon is particularly focused on future updates: the AVR-S980H will eventually work wirelessly with Denon Home 200, Denon Home 400, and Denon Home 600 speakers for surround sound. This will allow rear channels to be set up without running cables, though exact timing for the firmware update hasn't been disclosed.
