Learn about Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold 2, a triple-fold smartphone with a redesigned hinge for reduced thickness and weight, expected to launch in mid-2027.
According to insider reports, Samsung is indeed working on the second generation of its unusual triple-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2. Despite the limited release of the first model, high user interest appears to have prompted the company to reconsider its plans.
The original device's main issues were its thickness and weight. When folded, the smartphone measured 12.9 mm thick and weighed around 309 grams, significantly more than other flagship models. In the new version, Samsung aims to address these shortcomings with a redesigned hinge mechanism.
The updated folding system is expected to make the device thinner and lighter, though it likely won't fully match classic foldable models like the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Meanwhile, the new device may retain its large dimensions and could even become wider than its predecessor.
Interest in the first TriFold was strong—the $2,900 device sold out quickly despite limited production. However, the complex design raised reliability concerns, and developers haven't yet proposed compelling use cases for this form factor.
The Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is anticipated to launch around mid-2027. By then, Samsung will need to refine the hardware and enhance the software to fully unlock the device's potential.
