Windows 11 April Update Triggers System Failures and Boot Loops

Microsoft's April Patch Tuesday update KB5083769 for Windows 11 is causing Blue Screen errors, infinite reboots, and BitLocker issues. Learn how to fix it.

Microsoft has encountered fresh trouble after releasing the April update for Windows 11, labeled KB5083769 as part of Patch Tuesday. Instead of expected improvements, this update triggers severe system failures for some users.

According to reports, the update installs correctly, but after a reboot, critical errors start appearing. Visual artifacts show up on screen, then a Blue Screen of Death occurs, followed by infinite reboot loops. Built-in recovery tools often fail and simply return to the same cycle.

The issue isn't tied to specific hardware. Crashes have been logged on systems with Ryzen processors and GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards, as well as on machines from various manufacturers including Dell and HP. This makes pinpointing the exact cause more complicated.

Additionally, the update may trigger BitLocker recovery after rebooting. Without a pre-saved recovery key, this creates extra hassle for users. Some also encounter multiple restarts during the update installation itself.

Microsoft has not yet provided a quick fix. If your system is already affected, it is recommended to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment and try system restore or startup repair. As a last resort, a full device reset may be necessary.

For those who haven't installed KB5083769 yet, checking the update list and removing the patch if needed is advisable, along with pausing updates temporarily to avoid the same situation.
