Apple reportedly pauses Vision Pro, shifts to compact smart glasses with gesture control. New models may feature dual cameras for hand tracking. But experts are skeptical.
Apple is reportedly rethinking its approach to wearables. According to insiders, the Vision Pro project has been put on hold, with the company now focusing on developing more compact smart glasses. Rumors indicate Apple is working on several models, including display-less versions and more advanced options for later release. The latest report says that upcoming generations could include gesture control.
The proposed implementation is unusual. The glasses might have two cameras: one for photos and video, and another to track the user's movements. The system would recognize gestures for navigation and commands. But experts are skeptical. Even the more sophisticated Vision Pro uses multiple cameras and sensors for accurate finger tracking. Pulling off similar functionality with fewer sensors is extremely difficult.
For comparison, rivals like Google and Samsung rely on either voice control or additional accessories and sensors to improve precision. Insiders also suggest similar technology could come to future AirPods, but that claim is also met with doubt.
For now, it's all speculation. If Apple can deliver accurate gesture control with a limited sensor array, it would be a major technological breakthrough. But at this point, the claims seem too optimistic.
