Android Auto will soon let drivers snooze or dismiss phone alarms from the car display, no need to touch your phone. Spotted in a recent test version.
Google is adding a feature that Android Auto users have been requesting for nearly a decade: the ability to dismiss or snooze phone alarms directly from the car’s display. Currently, the system forces drivers to reach for their phones or use a connected smartwatch, which is both inconvenient and potentially unsafe.
Evidence of the update was spotted in Android Auto version 16.8.161804. After enabling a hidden setting, Snooze and Stop buttons appeared on the screen, letting you postpone or fully silence an alarm. These controls show up in both pop-up notifications and the notification panel.
This is a significant improvement, because right now Android Auto can’t really manage alarms on its own. While some reports suggest that similar actions were possible via Google Assistant in the past, the newer Gemini assistant doesn’t support them yet.
There’s no word on an exact release date, but the feature will make Android Auto noticeably more convenient for daily use. It’s not the only upgrade in the works, either: earlier test versions of the app have also revealed traces of future climate control elements.
