Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide leak reveals a shorter, wider design aimed at the foldable iPhone Ultra. With a 200MP camera, 4:3 display, set for July 2026.

Samsung appears to be readying a new foldable flagship that directly takes aim at the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra. References to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a fresh variant called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have surfaced in One UI 9 firmware files, and the leak suggests the Wide model will be the lineup's most significant departure.

The key change is a shorter, wider body. While the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to keep its tall, narrow shape—measuring 158.4 mm tall and 72.8 mm wide when folded—the Wide version shaves off nearly 35 mm in height, coming in at 123.9 mm, but stretches to 82.2 mm in width. Unfolded, it should offer a 4:3 aspect ratio and noticeably more screen real estate.

For Samsung, this shift matters. Earlier Galaxy Z Fold models were frequently criticized for their cramped outer screen. A broader format could make the phone feel more like a conventional smartphone when closed, and it also readies Samsung for a rumored clash with Apple, which may launch its first foldable iPhone Ultra this fall.

Leaked details also point to a dual rear camera setup on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Samsung is expected to fit a high-resolution 200-megapixel main sensor and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, while dropping the telephoto camera that will remain on the standard Fold 8. That choice likely reflects physical constraints inside the body and a bet on superior main-sensor quality.

Both foldables are expected to run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Another notable upgrade could be new OLED panels that hide the crease more effectively. If the technology proves out, Samsung would strengthen its foothold not just with the Wide format but also with a cleaner, more premium display.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide are tipped for a July 2026 unveiling at Galaxy Unpacked, with rumors pointing to a July 22 release. In an unconventional move, the event might take place in London. Meanwhile, the foldable iPhone Ultra is anticipated in September, setting up a fiercely competitive second half of 2026 for the foldable market.
