OPPO is reportedly testing a 100-megapixel square front camera sensor for future smartphones, potentially debuting in the Find X10 series later this year.
Fresh details have surfaced about an unusual front camera that OPPO is reportedly testing for its future smartphones. Earlier this year, insiders suggested that both OPPO and Huawei were considering a square sensor for selfie cameras, similar to the one in the iPhone 17 lineup. Now, more details have emerged about OPPO's rumored development.
According to a new leak, the company is testing a front camera with a 1:1 square sensor. The specific device hasn't been named, but the insider hinted it's likely an OPPO model. The manufacturer is reportedly weighing a 100-megapixel sensor for the selfie camera. This could potentially surpass Apple's front camera in terms of detail.
The square sensor's key advantage is that it lets users take selfies in either portrait or landscape orientation without rotating the phone. For comparison, the iPhone 17 series uses an 18MP 1:1 sensor for the same purpose.
No further camera specs have been disclosed yet. OPPO is expected to introduce this technology in the upcoming Find X10 series, which is rumored to debut in October.
