BOE may supply OLED panels for Samsung Galaxy S27 at lower cost

BOE is close to supplying OLED panels for the Samsung Galaxy S27, offering a $5 discount per unit vs Samsung Display, potentially saving millions.

Chinese display maker BOE may be closer than ever to breaking into the OLED supply chain for Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series. According to leaker Ice Universe, the company has submitted an aggressive pricing proposal to Samsung Electronics and is ready to supply panels for the base Galaxy S27 at $5 less per unit than Samsung Display.

At first glance, $5 per screen doesn’t seem like much. But across the volume of Galaxy S27 production, that difference could translate into tens of millions of dollars in savings. That’s why Samsung Electronics has reportedly already sent a request to BOE and is evaluating display samples. The Chinese manufacturer is no longer just a theoretical option—it’s now a real contender to supply displays for the next flagship.

BOE’s push isn’t hard to understand. The company is under pressure in the OLED market as Chinese smartphone makers cut production, and it’s looking to offset that with major new orders. In this environment, price becomes the key weapon. Landing a contract with Samsung would be more than a commercial win for BOE; it would be a symbolic breakthrough into one of the most exclusive and prestigious supply chains in the mobile industry.

For Samsung, the implications are mixed. The mobile division would get cheaper panels, helping lower the Galaxy S27’s bill of materials. But Samsung Display would face direct price competition from a Chinese rival. That could also put pressure on Korean suppliers tied to Samsung’s display business.

If BOE does secure a spot in the Galaxy S27 supply chain, it would send a strong signal across the OLED industry. Even Samsung—owner of one of the world’s most powerful display units—may turn to an external Chinese vendor if the cost savings are compelling enough. Ice Universe noted that BOE is no longer just testing the waters; it’s making a serious bid to enter with a cheaper OLED panel.
