Samsung appears to be planning a significant shift in its Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable smartphone lineup. According to insider Ice Universe, the company may reconsider previously discussed model names and streamline the branding.

Earlier leaks suggested names like Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide or even Galaxy Z Wide Fold, but now reports indicate these might not be used at all. Instead, the base model would likely be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while a higher-end version would carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra badge.

If this proves accurate, the lineup would become much clearer and more logical, as the earlier naming options were confusing and overly complex.

Preliminary details suggest the Ultra model will sit above the standard version, featuring a larger 5000 mAh battery and an upgraded triple camera setup with a dedicated telephoto lens. The regular Z Fold 8, meanwhile, is expected to pack a 4800 mAh battery and a simpler dual-camera system.

Both phones are rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and will come with improved foldable displays. However, the Ultra variant may offer a larger screen with a more stretched aspect ratio.

Samsung is expected to unveil the new foldable devices at its Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2026. Some sources hint at a London venue, though official confirmation is still pending.

With competition heating up in the foldable space—especially from Chinese brands and amid speculation about Apple's eventual entry—Samsung is clearly aiming to make its lineup more straightforward and competitive.
