The Trump Mobile T1 smartphone has found itself in the spotlight once again, this time because of a design flaw on its back panel. The phone features an American flag with only 11 horizontal stripes instead of the correct 13.
The actual US flag has 13 stripes representing the original British colonies that formed the United States. The T1 is missing two. The error stands out especially because the phone is marketed as a patriotic product tied to Donald Trump's name, with the flag playing a central role in its design.
According to media reports, Trump Mobile's February promotional materials showed the flag correctly. This makes the situation even stranger: the mistake seems to have appeared somewhere between the advertising renders and the final product. The first T1 units started shipping after several delays, and so far, most have gone to journalists and bloggers.
Social media users quickly spotted the discrepancy. One commentator noted that the phone's makers couldn't even get the flag right. Others speculated that it might have been intentional—under US law, you can't trademark an image of the American flag, so the TRUMP MOBILE lettering beneath the flag could have been meant to replace the two missing stripes. Even those who buy that theory admit the final design looks questionable.
The Trump Mobile T1 costs $499 and has already faced criticism over delays, its origins, and suspicions that it's just a rebadged existing phone. Now, this symbolic misstep adds to the list, especially for a product that leans heavily on American identity and political branding.
