The ROG Ally X20 celebrates 20 years of ROG with a stunning 7.4-inch OLED display, AR glasses bundle, and updated design. Learn specs, features, and price details.
ASUS has unveiled the ROG Ally X20, a portable gaming console running Windows 11 and marking the 20th anniversary of the ROG brand. It evolves concepts from the ROG Ally X and Xbox Ally X, but rather than a big performance leap, it emphasizes a premium display, updated design, and an unusual bundle.
The headline change is a 7.4-inch OLED display with Full HD resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 600 nits in SDR or 1400 nits in HDR. This is a big step for the ROG Ally line: the lack of OLED had long been a major complaint about ASUS handhelds, especially given competitors and gamers’ expectations for vivid screens on modern portable consoles.
Under the hood, the ROG Ally X20 is largely identical to the Xbox Ally X. It uses an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip (8 cores, 16 threads), Radeon graphics, 24 GB LPDDR5X RAM, and an SSD PCIe 4.0 on 1 TB. The battery is 80 Wh. Other specs include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, USB 4 and USB-C ports, a microSD slot, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a fingerprint scanner, a Microsoft Pluton security chip, a gyroscope, HD vibration, Hall-effect triggers, and TMR sticks.
Externally, the ROG Ally X20 features a translucent black chassis with gold accents. The design highlights the anniversary edition: the X20 name refers to the 20th anniversary of Republic of Gamers, which began in 2006. At 756 grams, it remains a hefty device, but the large battery and extensive features justify the weight.
The most unusual part of the bundle is the AR glasses ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20. They connect to the console and function as a personal virtual screen up to 171 inches diagonally with a refresh rate up to 240 Hz. This accessory turns the X20 into more than just an updated handheld; it becomes a pricier, image-focused set for gamers who want to play on the go or at home without an external monitor.
ASUS has not yet disclosed the price of the ROG Ally X20, and that will be crucial to its success. If the cost is too high, the OLED screen, translucent case, and AR glasses may make it more of a collectible anniversary bundle than a mass-market alternative to the Steam Deck, Xbox Ally X, or other portable gaming PCs.
