The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide weighs only 201 grams, lighter than the Xiaomi MIX Flip 2. This makes it feel surprisingly light for a large foldable.
Insider Ice Universe has once again highlighted one of the most unusual specs of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide: its weight. According to him, Samsung's wide foldable weighs just 201 grams, while the Xiaomi MIX Flip 2, a more compact clamshell, comes in at 203 grams.
This comparison is especially striking given the different form factors. The Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 is a foldable designed to be a compact phone, whereas the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is a large foldable of a different type, reportedly featuring a spacious internal display with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Ice Universe stresses that not only the 201-gram figure itself matters, but the ratio of weight to body size. When that mass is spread across a large chassis and a big screen area, the device feels different in the hand compared to a denser, more compact gadget of the same weight. The insider says the weight is "smeared" across the body, making the Fold8 Wide feel unusually light.
If the leak holds true, Samsung will achieve a rare combination: a large foldable screen with the weight of a compact clamshell. This, in Ice Universe's view, makes the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide almost otherworldly compared to earlier foldables, which were often perceived as heavy and bulky.
For Samsung, this spec could become a key competitive advantage as the foldable market evolves. Users have long wanted from the Fold series not just powerful hardware and a big screen, but also greater daily comfort. A weight of 201 grams could change perceptions of large foldables and make them feel more like regular flagships.
