Sony's June State of Play unveiled God of War Laufey, Marvel's Wolverine release date, Control Resonant, and a packed PS5 lineup through 2027.
Sony held its June State of Play presentation, kicking off the gaming week prior to Summer Game Fest. The broadcast ran over an hour and served as a key showcase of PlayStation's near-term plans: the company unveiled new trailers, release dates, sequels to well-known series, and several projects heading to PS5 in 2026 and 2027.
The closing highlight was God of War Laufey from Santa Monica Studio. While no release date has been announced, the game is confirmed for PS5. This time, the story shifts focus from Kratos to Faye, also known as Laufey. The tone echoes earlier God of War titles, but the gameplay takes a different direction: instead of Kratos's heavy combat, the emphasis is on acrobatics, magic, and unusual allies, including a giant six-legged flying cat and a talking gelatinous cube called Phranque.
Marvel's Wolverine stood out as a major title in the showcase. Sony presented roughly seven minutes of new gameplay from Insomniac Games, showing Logan in his yellow Wolverine costume engaging in brutal, fast-paced, and bloody claw fights. The game launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15.
Remedy Entertainment unveiled Control Resonant, the sequel to Control, with Dylan Faden as the sole playable character. The release is set for September 24, 2026, and Jesse Faden will also influence the story. In the horror segment, Sony confirmed Until Dawn 2 for 2027, Silent Hill: Townfall launching on September 24, and The Lost Wild: True Fear Is Primal — a dinosaur survival game arriving on PS5 in 2027.
The PS5 fall schedule is packed tighter: Ace Combat 8 lands on October 2, Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 25, and Dune: Awakening comes to PS5 on September 22 with a single-player mode. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has been pushed to February 12, 2027. Ubisoft showed Rayman Legends Retold, releasing on August 27. New projects also include Dave the Diver prequel Bancho the Chef, Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen from Ikumi Nakamura, and fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Overall, the State of Play represented Sony's effort to present a strong lineup of single-player games, the return of established franchises, and a clear roadmap for PlayStation in the near future.
