Caviar has unveiled the Masters of Time collection, a series of luxury iPhone 17 Pro Max units that integrate a compartment for mechanical Swiss watches. The brand, famed for its opulent Apple device modifications using gold, meteorites, and exotic materials, has now merged a smartphone and horology into a single body.
The standout feature is the Watch Vault system. This isn’t a mere decorative dial on the rear panel; it’s a mechanical quick-release mount embedded in the smartphone chassis. The watch locks into a niche via a short thread and latch, and a single turn of a lever releases it. Once removed, the watch can be fitted onto a regular strap and worn as a standalone timepiece.
The compartment is lined with a soft protective material to keep the watch case scratch-free. If the owner decides to wear the watch separately, the empty recess can be sealed with a decorative metal plate. Caviar offers a silver insert engraved with an astrolabe, ensuring the phone’s rear doesn’t appear unfinished.
The collection debuts with two one-of-a-kind models. The Celestial version is centered on a Patek Philippe Celestial watch, with an iPhone case crafted from 18-karat white gold, blue enamel, diamonds, and a piece of the Muonionalusta meteorite. The second model, called Portugieser, accommodates an IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Mystère Squelette and is dressed in white gold, hand engraving, white diamonds, and orange sapphires that mirror the watch’s exposed tourbillon.
Caviar also showcased concepts for versions with a Jacob & Co. Casino Tourbillon and a Rolex Sky-Dweller. Moreover, the company can craft a bespoke case for owners of Swiss watches between 42 and 44 mm in diameter. That makes this project an ultra-niche accessory for collectors who want to combine a smartphone and a mechanical watch into one art piece.
The pricing matches the extravagance. The white gold Celestial model costs $215,360, while a more 'accessible' titanium version for Omega watches starts at $49,640. Practicality is questionable—an iPhone with a mechanical watch vault will inevitably be heavier and bulkier. But for Caviar’s clientele, that’s hardly a drawback; it’s part of the overt luxury statement.
