With iOS 27, Apple CarPlay finally adds video streaming support and an AI-powered Siri assistant. New features improve entertainment and navigation while parked and on the road.
Apple is gearing up for one of the most significant CarPlay updates in years. With iOS 27, the in-car interface will finally get two long-awaited features: video streaming support and a smarter, AI-powered Siri. Both are set to arrive this fall alongside the new OS release.
Video support was first teased at WWDC 2025, but it will actually become available to users with iOS 27. If an app supports AirPlay, you'll be able to send video from your iPhone directly to the car's screen by selecting the vehicle from the casting menu. Apple is also opening a new API for developers, allowing video services to offer full playback and content selection within CarPlay — no need to pick up your phone.
That said, there are limitations. Video playback won't work on every CarPlay-equipped car, only on newer models where the manufacturer has specifically enabled it. And you can only watch video when parked. Apple cites scenarios like waiting at the airport or charging an EV, where using the car's screen as an entertainment display poses no safety risk.
The second major upgrade is Siri AI in CarPlay. The new assistant will be available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models. In Apple's demo, Siri quickly found a travel route suggested by a friend in a text conversation and read it back to the driver. This shows why AI matters in the car: the assistant should help you get the information you need without scrolling through messages and distracting you from the road.
Older iPhones will still get other CarPlay improvements, but not the new AI Siri. For European users, the restriction is even tighter: Siri AI won't launch with iOS 27 in Europe, regardless of iPhone model. So some features of the updated CarPlay will depend not only on your device but also on your region.
Beyond video and Siri, CarPlay will gain several practical tweaks. Now Playing finally adds scrubbing within tracks and podcasts, GPS and navigation directions become more accurate, and a new mini-player keeps audio controls visible inside apps. Apple also promises improved wireless CarPlay stability, which could be one of the most important upgrades for users who deal with frequent connection drops.
