Google has released Android 17 for compatible Pixel devices, adding Pixel Feature Drop changes, new AI tools, better multitasking and stronger privacy controls.
Google has released the stable version of Android 17, and the update has started reaching Google Pixel devices after months of beta testing. The final release closes a cycle that included five test builds: Android 17 Beta 1 on February 13, 2026, Beta 2 on February 26, Beta 3 on March 26, Beta 4 on April 16 and Beta 4.1 on June 1. The stable version arrived on June 16, 2026 and also brought the June Pixel Feature Drop.
The Android 17 update is available for a long list of Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 6 and covering almost the entire current range of Google phones, foldables and tablets. The list includes Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 10a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, as well as Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. Google is rolling it out to all compatible models at once, although availability can still vary slightly by region.
The update size depends on whether the user joined the beta program: testers will get a smaller package because some changes are already installed, while everyone else may need to download several gigabytes. Android 17 can be checked manually in system settings under software updates.
Android 17 brings several notable changes to Pixel devices. The system adds new AI features, including music generation from text or image prompts through Lyria 3 and video clip creation with Gemini Omni for subscribers. Google has also expanded regional features, including voice translation, call tools and faster file sharing between devices.
Multitasking has been reworked in a big way: Bubbles now work not only in messengers but also in other apps, letting them open in a floating format. On tablets and foldables, Google has added a Bubble Bar for managing those windows. Another new feature records front-camera video at the same time as the screen, making reactions, guides and tutorials easier to create. Foldables also get a gaming mode that splits the screen between the game and a virtual gamepad, plus support for remapping controller buttons.
There is also a Continue working feature: it helps users move between a phone and a tablet without losing the app state. The system offers to resume the task on another device directly from the taskbar.
On the security side, Android 17 adds temporary access to precise location, limited access to contacts and a Find Hub Mark as lost feature. It is designed to better protect a device even if an attacker knows the passcode.
Android 17 looks like a major update for the Pixel ecosystem: Google has combined new AI tools, more flexible multitasking and extra data-protection mechanisms in one release.
