HMD Asha 305 surfaces: Pulse OS, 4G and a compact 5-inch screen

Photos of the HMD Asha 305 retail box have appeared online, pointing to a new low-cost phone that could revive the familiar Asha line. The device, carrying model number TA-1779, had already shown up in certification documents, but HMD has yet to announce it officially.

The box says the handset runs Pulse OS. Its origins and capabilities remain unclear. Some reports suggest it is a lightweight platform for basic phones, but there is still no confirmation that Pulse OS is based on Android or any particular RTOS.

According to the leak, the HMD Asha 305 will feature a 5-inch display with an 854 × 480 resolution and wide bezels. The body is said to measure 147 × 71.5 × 10.2 mm. Black and green color options are expected, along with two 2 MP cameras, one on the rear and one on the front.

The phone is expected to use a Unisoc T137 chip paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. Battery capacity is listed at 2500 mAh, while charging is limited to 5 W. Those figures place the model somewhere between a traditional feature phone and a full Android smartphone.

The Asha 305 is also expected to support 4G and basic internet services. The exact app selection and the broader capabilities of Pulse OS remain the biggest unknowns. HMD has not yet confirmed pricing, availability or launch markets, so the box specifications should still be treated as preliminary.
