Apple may raise iPhone 18e memory from 8GB to 9GB as DRAM prices climb, while the most demanding Apple Intelligence features could still require 12GB.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple plans to increase the iPhone 18e's RAM from 8GB to 9GB. GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu has also pointed to a DRAM shortage and rising memory prices. Strong demand from AI data centers has tightened the supply of mobile chips as Samsung, Micron and SK hynix focus on more profitable AI memory.
Apple devices need at least 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence. However, some advanced iOS 27 capabilities, including more accurate dictation and controls for Siri's voice expression, are expected to require 12GB. As a result, 9GB would not unlock every demanding feature, but it would provide extra headroom for future updates without moving the more affordable model to 12GB.
The iPhone 18e is expected in spring 2027. No major design changes are currently anticipated. Analysts believe the phone will use Apple's A20 chip, while the iPhone 18 Pro models are likely to receive a faster version.
