Xiaomi 17 Pro keeps its rear display, adding live translation and monthly updates. Flagship TCL Huaxing panels, 3,500-nit brightness, Dragon Crystal Glass.

During a recent livestream, Xiaomi Group president and head of the mobile division Lu Weibing said the company’s next flagship series will keep its rear display while gaining new features and increased investment in R&D.

According to him, the secondary screen should evolve from a styling cue into a full-fledged interaction tool. In particular, the Xiaomi 17 Pro is set to introduce real-time translation on the back display. By the end of October, the company plans to roll out an update for the entire Xiaomi 17 lineup, adding a range of new capabilities, with further feature expansions slated to arrive on a monthly basis. A steady cadence like this can keep the extra screen useful rather than decorative.

Lu also noted that the team is actively gathering user suggestions to refine how the rear display works. Previously published data indicate that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max use TCL Huaxing panels: a 6.3-inch main display on the Pro and a 6.9-inch on the Pro Max. The second screen is described as flagship-grade, featuring an M10 light-emitting system, peak brightness up to 3,500 nits, and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass.

In effect, Xiaomi is doubling down on a distinctive dual-screen approach, aiming to turn it into a genuine advantage and a meaningful part of how people use their phones. If the software keeps pace, the concept has room to mature into something more than a headline feature.
