Apple is prepping foldable iPhones: a book-style model in 2026 and an iPhone Flip by 2028, with LTPO displays, under-display cameras, and a hybrid hinge.

Apple is moving ahead with a lineup of foldable iPhones and, according to the latest reports, is eyeing 2026 for a book-style debut and 2028 for a clamshell. This looks less like a tentative experiment and more like a deliberate entry into foldables, with two distinct formats to meet different habits and tastes.

South Korean outlet ETNews, citing analyst Kim Ki-hyeon of Stone Partners, reports that the first foldable iPhone will follow a “book” design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, with two displays that fold inward. The second path, a compact iPhone Flip, is positioned as an answer to growing demand for sleek, lightweight devices built with portability in mind.

The analyst notes that both models are set to incorporate advanced display technologies—LTPO, COE, CPM, Clear OC—as well as an under-display camera. Particular emphasis is being placed on the hinge, which is being developed from hybrid materials to improve durability, and on a Glass Mid-Frame meant to protect the panel from wear and creasing. Work on the hinge and the fold area, sources say, has been the main cause of the delay.

If these plans hold, Apple would introduce its first book-style foldable in 2026, with the clamshell iPhone Flip arriving by 2028, aiming to blend compact form, robustness, and a premium finish. The timeline suggests a measured rollout rather than a sprint, with an emphasis on reliability that could, if successful, nudge the category toward higher expectations.
