Explore YouTube’s refreshed Android app with semi-transparent playback controls, playful like animations, smoother transitions, and a clearer comments layout.
YouTube has rolled out a major visual refresh of its Android app. It’s the opening step in a broader redesign that will later reach iOS. The company says the interface is now more modern and airy, with softer colors and simplified menus designed to make watching videos more comfortable.
The biggest changes appear during playback. The control panel is now semi-transparent, so buttons and icons are less obtrusive, keeping attention on the video rather than the interface. Tapping the Like button triggers a brief animation that shifts depending on the clip—for a music video, a tiny note may pop up—a small touch that makes the app feel livelier and more personal.
YouTube has also added smoother transitions: adding a video to a playlist or opening a menu now comes with gentle animations that make the interface feel more responsive and visually pleasant.
Comments got special attention. The section now reads more like an actual conversation: a tree-style layout shows replies right away and makes discussions easier to follow. The change aims to fix long-standing confusion in threads and streamline exchanges between users and creators.
To try the new design, simply update the YouTube app through Google Play. Users can leave feedback on the redesign in the app’s settings. The update will roll out to iPhone in the coming weeks.
