GPD WIN 5 flagship handheld debuts with 128GB RAM, 4TB SSD, Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and battery-free FlexPower

GPD has unveiled a flagship edition of its WIN 5 handheld, outfitted with 128 GB of RAM and a 4 TB SSD. The device is built on the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor based on the Zen 5 architecture and is available for preorder at a price of 16,999 yuan.

Beyond the headline memory and storage, the console features a 7-inch display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium support, a 6 ms response time, and full sRGB coverage. Weighing 565 grams, it forgoes an internal battery in favor of FlexPower technology that keeps it running from an external power source—an unconventional move that will appeal to those who play docked or at a desk, even if it won’t suit every travel scenario.

Under the hood, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 brings 16 cores and 32 threads, a 3.0 GHz base clock, and boost speeds up to 5.1 GHz. The integrated Radeon 8060S graphics are positioned as delivering performance on par with discrete GPUs, while the NPU provides up to 50 TOPS for AI-driven tasks. On paper, the numbers paint a very ambitious picture for a handheld form factor.

Storage flexibility is another clear focus: there’s an M.2 PCIe Gen4 slot for SSDs, an additional Mini SSD connector, and a microSD slot. Controls include capacitive joysticks with an 8,000 Hz polling rate, Hall-effect triggers, and advanced haptics with just 2.3 ms latency—hardware tuned for precision and immediacy that competitive-minded players tend to appreciate.
