Native call recording arrives on Pixel 6 and newer via Google Phone

Google has released an update to its Phone app that finally unlocks native call recording on Pixel 6 and newer smartphones. Until now, the feature worked only in a limited way and was unavailable in many regions. With the change, owners of these models can use call recording on Android 14 via the stable Google Phone app, version 198+.

After installing the update, recording can be enabled in the app’s settings: a Call Recording toggle appears in the Call Assist section. Users can start a recording manually during a call or set up automatic recording for unknown numbers and selected contacts.

At the same time, the November Pixel Feature Drop expands the availability of Call Notes, an AI-based toolkit that produces call transcripts and a concise summary of conversations. It is now available in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and Japan.

Taken together, Google is strengthening the set of communication tools on older Pixel devices, bringing them functionally closer to the current lineup.
