MediaTek Dimensity Cockpit P1 Ultra brings AI and ray tracing to car cabins

MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity Cockpit P1 Ultra, a powerful 4 nm automotive platform built for modern intelligent cabins that blends high compute performance with advanced AI and graphics featuring hardware ray tracing. The company says the first cars with this chip will arrive soon.

The P1 Ultra pairs an octa‑core CPU delivering up to 175,000 DMIPS with a new graphics engine that supports hardware ray tracing and reaches up to 1,800 GFLOPS. This level of GPU performance appears in the automotive sector for the first time and is expected to noticeably lift the visual quality of in‑car interfaces and entertainment.

AI is a centerpiece. The processor integrates an NPU rated at 23 TOPS, capable of running generative models directly in the vehicle. It supports language models of up to 7 billion parameters, enabling advanced voice assistants, multimodal interfaces, image generation, and local safety algorithms without a cloud connection.

Another priority for MediaTek is shortening development timelines for automakers. Dimensity Cockpit P1 Ultra consolidates the smart cockpit, connectivity, and the T‑BOX telematics module into a single chip. It supports 5G, dual‑band Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS, and includes a built‑in modem. Cameras are handled by an HDR ISP with AI noise reduction and automated processing, which improves surround‑view systems, dashcams, and in‑cabin monitoring.

On the multimedia side, the chip can drive up to six displays simultaneously, while MiraVision enables 4K 60 FPS video playback and recording. In practice, that gives cars with the P1 Ultra the headroom for rich entertainment experiences for both driver and passengers. MediaTek also confirmed the Dimensity Cockpit P1 Ultra will be offered in three variants—5G, 4G, and Wi‑Fi—while keeping a common architecture with an octa‑core CPU and a six‑core GPU.
