Insider Evan Blass reports that Motorola is working on a new flagship smartphone, internally codenamed Urus. Based on the leak, the device will run on the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which all but confirms it as the forthcoming Motorola Edge 70 Ultra.
This year, Qualcomm split its top-tier lineup into two variants—the ultra-high-performance Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and the more balanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Rumor has it the Elite version is destined for the foldable Razr 70 Ultra, while the standard Gen 5 is reserved for the classic flagship. The logic is hard to dispute: the new chip is built on the Oryon architecture and a 3 nm process, combining high speed with lower heat and moderate power draw. That should let the Edge 70 Ultra deliver flagship-grade performance without overheating or a steep hit to battery life.
Motorola’s choice also reads as strategic: competitor OnePlus is already prepping the 15R on the same processor, so the Edge 70 Ultra needs to land quickly to avoid ceding ground on performance. Display and camera details are still under wraps, yet it’s clear the device is set to be among the most capable phones in the family.
The leak indicates that Urus will indeed become the new flagship of the Edge series, offering a powerful yet balanced experience without excessive energy use. While the top Elite Gen 5 chip is said to be headed to the Razr 70 Ultra, the upcoming Edge 70 Ultra is shaping up as the more practical, durable, and accessible option for those who want high performance in a classic form factor.
