Insider chatter around Half-Life 3 continues to stir the gaming community. With The Game Awards on the horizon, one source maintains that the long-awaited announcement is slated for 2025, with a release in spring 2026. Valve still hasn’t confirmed the game’s development, yet analysts frame its arrival as a question of timing rather than possibility.
Mike Straw of Insider Gaming said his source named a specific launch year, but he couldn’t find anyone else to corroborate the leak. That lack of confirmation could indicate Valve is deliberately limiting the flow of information—much as it did with the VR title Half-Life: Alyx.
The insider notes that Valve has previously resorted to date obfuscation, creating multiple versions of release plans to trace leaks. Journalists have also pointed to heightened security at company events in the past, suggesting a sustained effort to keep projects under wraps.
Meanwhile, the window for news is narrowing: Valve employees traditionally head out for winter break in mid-December, and The Game Awards on December 11 seems like a natural stage for a high-profile reveal—though there’s no certainty the company will choose it. Show host Geoff Keighley recently posted a cryptic statue image, sparking speculation, but fans found no direct nod to Half-Life 3.
If Valve really is preparing an announcement, it will likely unveil it on its own terms—and not a moment before it decides the timing is right. Given the studio’s penchant for secrecy, that would hardly be surprising.
