One UI 8.5 on Android 16: Galaxy AI expands, Bixby reworked, better battery controls

An extensive One UI 8.5 changelog has surfaced, and it points to one of Samsung’s most ambitious interface updates in years. Built on Android 16, One UI 8.5 is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series in January 2026. The emphasis clearly shifts toward expanded Galaxy AI, a stronger Bixby, improved battery controls, easier connectivity, and deeper personalization.

Galaxy AI is set to gain a continuous image generation mode that produces a series of variations without saving each step. Once processing is finished, users will be able to open a history view and pick the best result. Bixby is also getting a substantial rework: the assistant becomes more conversational, better understands natural phrasing, more quickly finds the right features, and keeps a dialogue history for convenience. The direction suggests a push to make assistance feel more fluid and useful in everyday tasks.

Ecosystem features take a notable step forward. With One UI 8.5, files from Samsung phones, tablets, and computers can be accessed directly through the My Files app. Device connections are set to be more convenient, including quick screen casting from a phone to a TV, while Auracast support is improved with the option to transmit voice. It all points to a tighter, more practical cross-device experience.

The battery section is due for a major revamp as well. The interface becomes clearer, statistics more precise, and power-saving modes more flexible and effective. Users should be able to assess consumption, remaining time, and charging status more quickly. Samsung is also updating the Quick Panel, screen recording tools, health features, weather, and security — together positioning One UI 8.5 as one of the most expansive updates to its interface in recent years.
