Hyundai Mobis unveils holographic windshield for Kia EV9 and SDV platform at IAA 2025

IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich set the stage for one of Hyundai Mobis’s standout premieres. In the public area, the company showcased the flagship Kia EV9 electric model equipped with a next-generation Holographic Windshield Display (HWD). The technology turns the entire windshield into a display for driving data, navigation guidance, and multimedia elements. Co-developed with ZEISS, it is slated for series production by 2029. The idea is to place information in the driver’s natural line of sight rather than multiply separate screens—if executed well, a pragmatic step toward cleaner, calmer interfaces.

Beyond the open stand, Hyundai Mobis is running closed-door presentations for global automakers. Inside a private pavilion, the company lays out its strategic vision centered on three priorities: eco-friendly electrification, integrated control solutions, and innovations in visualization. Taken together, the focus reads like an effort to fuse software and optics into a cohesive user experience.

The centerpiece is an integrated SDV (software-defined vehicle) solution that unites software and hardware. It revolves around consolidated control units for Level 2+ automated driving and includes services such as cybersecurity, over-the-air updates, and system-wide connectivity.

In visual technologies, the company unveiled the updated M.VICS 6.0 digital cockpit. It brings together the new MIS 2.0 infotainment, the holographic display, and a sliding screen that blends into the EV9’s interior. The layout suggests a push to keep the interface information-rich yet visually restrained.

Hyundai Mobis is actively working with key European brands, including Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, offering tailored solutions and discussing future partnerships. Since 2021, its European sales have risen from 5 to more than 8 trillion won, and the Munich showcase is intended to reinforce that momentum.
